DMAs and DayParting

Today we have two new dictionary definitions for you:

DMA (Designated Market Area): Media markets designed in which people receive advertisements based on their location. DMAs are defined by Nielsen Media Research and are used to identify specific media markets for those interested in buying advertisements in that area. Many websites allow advertisers to show their ads in their DMA market reaching everyone in that area.

Ex: The New York City DMA is shown in yellow below:

Dayparting:  The practice of dividing the day into several parts, during each of which a different type of creative or programing is shown. Additionally, dayparting can refer to switching the medium the creative is shown on.

Ex: To maximize reach to your target audience a company could daypart an advertising campaign so ads are shown on mobile in the morning, on PC’s midday, and on tablets at night.

The Best 404 Error Pages

Sure, it is not ideal, but every once in a while a website is not going to load. When a user types in an incorrect URL, follows a dead link, or somehow ends up on a page that does not exist a 404 page loads to let site visitors know they have reached a broken link. The proper definition is, “The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.”

We have noticed a trend of companies taking this usually uninteresting page, branding it and often creating some unexpected humor.  Here is a compilation of our favorite 404 error pages originally found here, here, here, or here:

Flashback Friday: The 2000s

At PACE, we’re proudly celebrating our 65th Anniversary this year!  And we are finally at our last Friday of recapping a decade of PACE history on the blog. So far we have highlighted milestones from the 1940s, the 1950s, the 1960s, the 1970s, the 1980s, and the 1990s.

A lot has happened since we opened our doors back in 1949. We’ve evolved over the years to meet the challenges of a changing world, but one thing has always remained constant: our ability to creatively, strategically, and successfully position, brand, and promote our clients.  Today, our six decade, the 2000s:

PACE Advertising - 65th Anniversary -2000s

We hope you have enjoyed this series and will continue reading for more recent updates about PACE and our every changing industry.

Display Advertising, Broken Down

Display AdvertisingOne of the most frequent question we are asked in digital advertising is about ad units. When executing a digital adveritisng campaign display units on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices are extremely varied.

Display advertising is a form of online advertising where an advertiser’s message is shown on a destination web page. This is generally placed next to content on the page.Ad units are the space on a webpage, mobile browser, or in an app where ads are displayed. Ad units are measured by width x height in pixels. The three most common ad units are rectangles (300 x 250), leaderboards (728 x 90), and skyscrapers (160 x600), see below labeled one, two, and three.

These are the most common ad sizes because they are offered by the majority of the top online publishers and have been deemed efficient at delivering results for a wide range of campaign types such as brand awareness and direct response.

Below are the IAB’s (The Interactive Advertising Bureau) standard ad sizes:
